Pregnancy massage at Joy Therapy Centre Harrogate.

At Joy Therapy Centre in Harrogate there are 3 types of pregnancy massage available. 

 

Chair massage. 

 

This is for those who wish to remain fully clothed.  It's deeply relaxing and great if you have tightness in your neck and shoulders.  I can easily access your lower back and work on loosening leg muscles, really important when preparing for birthing. 

 

Classic pregnancy massage. 

 

This is done laying on the massage couch, I use a variety of bolsters and cushions to support your body and your bump.  This massage is done with warm oils and is great if babies head isn't engaged yet or is very big and laying in a position that is uncomfortable for you. I can work on specific areas and use a combination of techniques or just help deeply relax your body and loosen muscle tension. 

 

Hydrotherm massage. 

 

This 3 dimensional massage is carried out while you are laying on warm water cushions. You lay face up and there's no need to move.  The water provides perfect spinal alignment and support, you simply float on the cushions whilst having a full body massage.  This massage is safe right throughout your pregnancy. This blissfully relaxing full body massage deeply warms and relaxes your body. Wonderful for low back pain and it prepares your body for birthing. 

 

There are many benefits all of these massage options can bring you during your pregnancy here are my top 8.

 

1. Increased Blood Circulation 

 

Massage brings more oxygen to mother and the baby, stimulating the lymphatic system. 

 

This will result in a stronger immune system and help to reduce toxins in the body. 

 

Increased blood circulation will also result in your baby getting better nourishment.
 

An added bonus is that increase blood circulation will help prevent varicose veins from forming which is common during pregnancy
 

2 Massage Helps To Relieve Lower Back Pain. 


Lower back pain is a common pregnancy symptom. There are lots of body parts being pushed, stretched and of cause there are higher levels of hormone relaxin in your body this hormone causes ligaments that support the spine to relax. This can add to instability and pain.


Pregnancy massage improves lower back pain through improving the lumbosacral tilt that occurs during pregnancy.

3. Relieves Depression and Anxiety


In case you didn’t know, it is actually very common for postnatal depression to start during the third trimester of pregnancy instead of when you expect it to start (after your baby is born). 

 

Massage helps to stabilize hormone levels which can relieve anxiety and depression.


Massage also releases endorphins that soothe and relax you. 

 

4. Massage Improves Sleep


Any woman that has been pregnant knows how hard it can be to really relax and sleep well while pregnant.

During pregnancy your body changes and your center of gravity moves. In addition to this there is quite a bit of extra weight placed on muscles and joints.
