As of January At Joy in Harrogate, a new Meditation and Yoga studio has now opened. Meditation sessions Run weekly on Wednesdays at 7-45 and on Sundays at 7-00 weekend and evening workshops are also running so look out for them on the facebook page.
WHAT STYLE OF MEDITATION WILL BE TAUGHT?
The sessions include a range of meditations from mindfulness and insight that Amanda Joy has found popular over the many years she has been teaching. Some meditations will be simple guided meditations, where you simply follow the voice of the Leader, and some will give your mind a bit of a workout helping you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings. The teachings are non religious but many stem from ancient teachings of Buddhism, Hindu, Christian, and other traditions. Everyone is welcome.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE EXPERIENCE IN MEDITATION?
Not at all. My classes are designed with beginners in mind. First time and experienced meditators are welcome to attend.
DO I HAVE TO GO EVERY WEEK?
It's not a requirement, you are free to attend as you please, but I do recommend you attend every week during terms especially if you attend the Sunday sessions, they will be structured to follow on from each other and will be taught in 6 week blocks that have a specific theme.
The theme may be stress management or motivation or mindfulness. Attending weekly helps keep up your motivation towards a successful meditation practice that will enhance your life
Making a commitment to your wellbeing, learning about what suits you, and sharing experiences in a group can enhance your meditation practice. Sessions run weekly and don’t run during the school holidays. The Wednesday sessions are a repeat of the Sunday sessions and follow on from our weekly yoga class. So if you have the time you can do both.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND WEEKLY MEDITATION SESSIONS?
Meditation and mindfulness are said to be the keys to happiness and joy. Building a daily practice can be challenging, and including a weekly session can help increase your motivation to make meditation a habit and stick with it, while giving you the opportunity to share your journey with likeminded souls.
HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS?
Sessions go for approximately 45-60 mins, but don't worry, I won't make you sit still and meditate all that time!
As a guide the sessions may include an introduction, a deep relaxation some intention setting for the session, some quick easy stretches, about 2 meditations, to add to your 'meditation toolbox', and time for discussion in-between. My aim is to have you leave feeling refreshed and relaxed, and ready to make meditation part of your life for the better.

Sessions are £5- £10
WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE?
Chairs, cushions and mats are provided but please feel free to bring your own meditation cushion/ stool and yoga mat if you wish. Yoga mats are not required, but some prefer to use them when sitting on the floor. You should also bring an open mind, and eagerness to learn :)
WHO IS MY MEDITATION LEADER?
As your Meditation Leader I have undergone meditation training in the UK and abroad as well as with Peter Radcliffe of Skillful Mind, I hope to follow in his footsteps, sharing the ancient art of meditation that he has learned from his many years of travel and experience, coming from a range of areas and backgrounds, I have always liked his style of down to earth practical teachings in combination with neuroscience and psychology.
