Pregnancy Massage

Therapeutic massage has been used for centuries to improve overall health, reduce stress, and relieve muscle aches and tension.

Feeling stressed?

Studies indicate that massage during pregnancy reduces anxiety, decreases symptoms of depression, relieves muscle aches and joint pains, and can improve labour outcomes and new-borns health. 

Mood swings?

There have been many studies done on the benefits of massage during pregnancy. Studies have shown that hormone levels associated with relaxation and stress are significantly altered when massage becomes a part of prenatal care. Massage helps mood regulation and improved cardiovascular health.

Swollen joints or ankles?

Swelling or edema of the joints during pregnancy, is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels by the heavy uterus. Massage helps with circulation of blood in the soft tissues and reduces fluid build-up in joints. It also encourages the removal of toxins carried by the body’s lymphatic system.

Back ache?

Especially lower back pain is experienced by many women in late pregnancy, as the uterus rests on muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower leg, causing them to swell and put pressure on nearby nerves causing shooting pain and spasm and sometimes sciatica.

Massage addresses inflamed nerves and tight muscles and reduces tension. Many women have experienced a significant reduction in sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy through massage.

Headaches?

Massage soothes away tension headaches and I in cooperate the use of acupressure points to gently relieve pressure in the head, neck and shoulders.

Sleep problems?

Anxiety, discomfort and hormones can contribute to insomnia during pregnancy (meaning the inability to fall or stay asleep). It's very common and can be frustrating.  Mind and body are connected and the relaxing effect of massage soothes you and can help to assist with a peaceful night’s sleep. 

What should I expect during a pregnancy massage?

I offer 2 types of pregnancy massage the first is seated.  During this massage you remain fully clothed and no oils are used.

You sit on a special chair with your face resting in a cradle, looking down towards the floor, with supports for your arms. Your back and neck are completely relaxed while the therapist relieves muscle tension using pressure points to get to the centre of those tight achy areas of you neck shoulders back and hips. 

The second pregnancy massage I offer is Hydrotherm.  With this massage system I use warm water-filled cushions on top of my regular massage couch. Your entire massage is carried out while you are face-up, laying on your back. This massage can be with essential oils or without.  I slide my hands between you and the pads to give you your full body deeply relaxing massage experience.

I also offer Thai foot massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and Aromatic facials.  If you simply want a moment of bliss.
